Dabu prints, originating from Rajasthan, India, are a unique form of mud-resist hand block printing. The process involves using a specially prepared dough, made from local ingredients like mud, gum, lime, and wheat chaff, to print patterns onto fabric. Once printed, the fabric is repeatedly dipped in indigo or other natural dyes, with the mud-resist areas retaining their original color. After dyeing, the mud is washed off, revealing intricate, contrasting designs. Dabu prints are celebrated for their earthy and ethnic appeal, and their production supports sustainable and traditional craftsmanship, promoting rural artisans and eco-friendly practices in textile art.
