We are to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of our Independence Day, 15Th August 2021. This day celebrated by the young and the old alike are memorable days for us. However, this pandemic has forced the country to cancel almost every celebration, including this one too. As we are bound within the four walls of our homes, amid the pandemic, we can indulge ourselves in adding Indigenous Handmade crafts for our home decor that not only guarantee our rich heritage but also support local artisans.

Peacock Printed Bedsheets

An appealing dancing peacock printed bed-sheet can adorn your bedroom.Peacock being the national bird of India, you can also associate it with this auspicious day.

Cushions & Bolsters

Cushions are an essential accessory to any home décor. Whether used for the living room or bedroom or alcove they have the magical ability to accentuate the look. We can choose to have a Tricolour theme where shades of Saffron, white and green cushions can be aligned as the National flag on the Diwan sets. A plethora of artwork on Cushions like Patchwork, Mirror work, applique, bandhani, Gota, Embroidery, Sequins, or Motif prints like bagru, Jaipuri block prints, etc. are available to choose from.

Curtains

Curtains are an indispensable part of a room. Not only do they add a personality and aesthetics to a room but they also safeguard our privacy. A hand-stitched fabric patchwork curtain will

enliven the room, whereas motif-printed ones on the neutral color background will denote the serenity and peace around us.

Dohar

Kantha stitched Dohar( embroidery stitches on a light blanket) with pillow covers are a must-have for its versatile functionality. It has been in use for ages all over India as a bedspread or as a Comforter. They add elegance and beauty to the living or the drawing-room.

Rangoli Colour Set

Make a beautiful rangoli with our Indian National Flag theme at the porch or hallway. Though Rangoli making takes time and patience, stencils and color powder bottles are available to ease it out for you. One may also consider using readily available items like Flower petals, seeds, leaves powder, rice powder, etc. for decorating the Rangoli. One can light a few diyas on its periphery to enhance its beauty.

LED Lights teamed up with Floor Seating

A relaxing Floor Seating arrangement can be temporarily made in the corner of a room using an aesthetically pleasing weaved tribal floor rug/dhurrie with some throws to sit down with the family to watch movies or for a long chat. To add vibrance, some decorative plants can also be placed nearby. Subtle lighting can be arranged by hanging strings of LED strip lights in the tricolor theme (saffron, white and green).

Jute Craft

This day is an opportunity to start replacing non-biodegradable items with greener options to save our natural resources. Jute is primarily produced in Eastern India. They are usually seen as jute sacks carrying grains, but they are nowadays handcrafted into fruit bowls, wall décor hangings, coasters, baskets, trays, pen stands, etc. They are not only beautiful personal possessions but are also good gifting ideas.

Bamboo & Cane Crafts

Bamboo Craft, a specialty of Assam has found its way into many homes in the form of elegant and beautiful décor items. Eco-Friendly Cane furniture teamed with comfy cushions gives a classy look to the drawing rooms. Apart from this, baskets are a great savior to store laundry or accessories. Bamboo Hanging lampshades with ambiance lighting can also be a great add-on to enhance the beauty of the Dining room, bedroom or study.

One may also consider Bamboo wind chimes hung near the window or door that produce a tinkling sound when a slight gush of air runs past them.

Small to medium Cane baskets can be used to keep cosmetics, jewellery items on the dressing table. It can also be used to keep house and car keys near the entrance to never have to ruffle around while in a hurry.

Hand-painted Jaipur Blue Pottery ceramics are vibrant additions to one's home. Their colorful charm brings about positivity in our lives. Items available are coffee mugs, dinnerware, wall hangings, flower vase, tabletop storage containers for pickles, serving bowls, etc.

Another feather to the cap is the Terracotta figurines, miniatures and pots that are elegant, low maintenance and eco-friendly ways of beautification of the living room.
